A master craftsman, educated in Germany, Alfons Laicher brings a wealth of expertise and experience to custom furniture artistry. Prior to coming to Canada, he spent three years in an apprentice program and several years working as a journeyman cabinet maker. After one year in trade school where he learned business and training practice, he went to work managing cabinet shops in Germany.
In 1998, he immigrated to Canada and worked in cabinet shops and on luxury yachts with custom boat builders. In 2005, he opened his own business, Alfons Custom Furniture and Woodwork.
Today, he runs a thriving business building custom cabinetry and furniture. While cabinetry is the "bread and butter" of his business, Alfons' true passion is custom furniture design. His design imagination knows no bounds and he is comfortable creating all types of furniture from traditional to contemporary.
Alfons has been congratulated by his many happy customers for his honest approach to business, his desire to create the best possible product and his attention to detail.
At the 2014, Veneer Tech Craftsman's Challenge Woodworking Competition, Alfons received an Honorable Mention award for his hall table, "Fine Line". The judges for this challenge were experts from woodworking media and education, and furniture making and manufacturing. They commented on the high level of quality that was evident in the international competition.
Alfons was recently profiled in Canada Woodworker Magazine.
"Creating furniture from wood brings a tree to life again and extends its life possibly hundreds of years into the future."
